Boston - Week 4

This week marks the last week of our stay in Boston. I’m positive that everyone will agree with me that there are mixed feelings about this week. On one hand, we cannot wait to go back to our loved ones, eat local food and sleep on our own beds. On the other hand, we do not want to leave at all. We are sure that we will miss Boston and all who have spent 5 weeks with us. Personally, I do not want to leave more than wanting to go home. I truly enjoy the life we’ve had here the last 4 and half weeks. There were so many important experiences that I just want to stay longer to learn more.

I feel that I have grown as an individual and as an educator through these 4 and half weeks. I believe that I have learnt to think more critically about what I have heard and seen in Boston. I have learnt to have a broader view about issues and am more analytical. I do not see myself as an individual educator, but I can see myself advocating for children with at least 62 other educators. I truly believe that it is important for us future educators to change our mindset about being advocates of change.

There were a few highlights of this week. The museums were amazing! My friends and I went to JFK Library and Museum, Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) and Children’s Museum. JFK museum was inspiring. I particularly liked this sentence that he mentioned in one of his speeches, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country”. This was one of the experiences that helped me reflect on who I am and what I can offer to others. The MFA was utterly beautiful. Walking through the museum helped me reflect a lot. I was amazed at how talented people were in the past. The displays were in such detail that I could not help but take seconds looks at them. It was interesting that even though all these art displays were from different countries and continents, there was still some similarity in their art. As a Christian, the art displays about Jesus Christ meant a lot to me. It was like getting in touch with what I’m familiar with. The Children’s Museum was another amazing place to spend the day in. I may not be a child according to the law, but I was still fascinated by the things in the museum. I was having so much fun that I lost track of time. The different sections of the museum will definitely teach children about a lot of things as they explore and experiment. It is a place that all children should go at least once.

My friends and I spent Saturday in Six Flags. It is a wonderful day filled with screaming, shouting and excitement. It was a good day for relaxation and thrills. We tried as many roller coaster rides as we can with the limited amount of time. I truly enjoyed myself the 10-hour excitement that Saturday.

Friday night, my friends and I caught a Broadway musical - Rent. It was worth every cent paid for the musical. Throughout the musical, I was reminded of the things learnt in the theatre workshops that we have had with John and the lessons we have had with Sue. It was interesting that I now view drama and the arts different due to these courses that I have taken.
