Acceptance

It's been awhile since I updated. Life has been quite the same. More responsibilities now with a new role in church and more responsibilities at work. But i'm really enjoying myself. I'll update more later. Right now to my reflection. :)

What inspired me to write is an observation I made on my way to work. It saddens my heart, but also helped me see things from a different perspective.

Today the older children from my school had sports day at the stadium. And I met a student and parent on my way to work. The sports day probably ended already and they're on their way home. They sat next to me. Persons with special needs are unique and they show their innate characters. When they're happy, they show it. When they're sad or angry, they show it. They don't hide their feelings like we normally do. A couple of primary school students opposite us started to whisper and stare.

At first, I was a little upset cause our society is just too young and uneducated in accepting people of ALL walks of life and backgrounds. People still stare and whisper when they see or hear someone who is different. I didn't understand why people who want to be accepted aren't accepting others who need to be accepted and treated equally.

But the more I thought about it, I realized that actually our friends who have special needs are more blessed than we are. Yes, they deserve to be respected and accepted like we are. But they see our world in a way that we will never get to see. The world they see are of the people who care and love them, not the stares and whispers. But we (the supposedly accepted ones) see the ugly side of our world more than the loving and caring side. We are pretty sad people.

Whatever it is, we can change the way our world is. Each of us need to learn to truly accept, respect, love and care for the people around us - the family, the friends, the enemies, the strangers. Would you try to do it?
