You know a leader - a good one - when he or she is leaving an organization.
I had the privilege of witnessing a good leader leave YPS (the school I'm working at now). To many at YPS, it is a loss. But to the one leaving, it's an opportunity to soar higher and to impact more people. This one leader is none other than the principal of YPS, Ms Fauziah. She isn't exactly leaving the organization, she is only moving to MDS (the other campus of the organization) to be the principal there.
Yesterday (19 Nov, Friday) was the day of the Graduation Ceremony. It was announced that there was contact time (all staff to come together for meeting) after the ceremony. And of course this contact time was also known as (to the staff) farewell for Fauziah.
And because of this "contact time", the staff of different programs and departments made preparations to show their love towards Fauziah. The amount of work put it prior to the "contact time" was great - emails sent out to all staff, people taking initiative to spearhead the performances and gifts, coming together to practice and make gifts. During the "contact time" itself, the auditorium was simply filled with laughter, joy, respect an love. As she made a speech (which she was too speechless to make), many started to tear. The words of Jessica the VP, "Today, I lose a great boss and a great friend."
Even though I have only been in YPS for close to 3 months and I don't know Fauziah personally, I could sense the awesome work she has done in YPS. She is a leader, greatly respected by all her staff. She is a leader, greatly loved by her staff. She is a leader, greatly missed by her staff. This little time of knowing Fauziah (from the "contact time" and from the staff), she has inspired me to be a leader and friend.
All this reminded me of the Student Organization. I enjoyed being part of it and having a great and supportive team to work with. I miss having endless meetings with Syafiqah and Lydia. I miss having to stress of issues but still enjoying the process of dealing with the issues. I am very thankful for the experience of Student Organization. :)
