Hi everyone!
School started this week. Before any updates, i have to explain some terms cause the US use different terms than Singapore.
Singapore's course = US's program. So i'm studying the Early Childhood PROGRAM.
Singapore's module = US's course. So i take COURSES and not modules.
Singapore's lecturers = US's professors. So i have PROFESSORS and not lecturers.
Okay. Here are the little update on how school has been these 3 days. It's been quite HORRIBLE!!! My timetable is as such, 9am - 5pm every weekday except Wednesdays, for 6 weeks. So wednesdays i have nothing on. BUT don't YAY for me yet. Cause... wednesdays are for me to do my assignments. So here's why it's horrible.. :(
I have 4 core courses to go through these 6 INTENSIVE weeks as the US professors from Boston are here and they have to travel back to conduct the other courses. For every session of the course, we have to prepare. We have to do our readings of the TB and handouts and critical reflections to the readings. On top of these, we have assignments to hand in. For every course, there are at least 4 assignments. The professors no longer spoon feed us with information. We have to answer all the questions that the professors ask and we discuss as a class of 63. There are no more specific outline/ framework to assignments. And the BEST thing is.... Class participation takes up 20-40% of the overall 100% grade. (This varies according to the course. Just giving you an overall feel.) Can you believe it!?!?!?! I guess it'll be easy for me cause i talk a lot in class. But it'll be hard to gauge how well i'm doing and improve.
That's the overall for these 6 weeks. For this week ONLY, i already have loads of work. BLEAH!!! On tuesday, i had my first session for two courses. AND i had readings to prepare. That's not it!! I had a critical reflection due!!!! And the courses HAVE NOT even started yet!!! It's really been so trying.. Hope i can handle everything well.
Academic side is scary huh? But the social side for me has been quite okay, better than what i expected. I found a group of friends to hang out with already. They're ppl i've already met in poly and had most classes with. Quite comfortable with them. And i realised i'm not the only one who joined the program without any close friends. A few others too! SO I'M NOT ALONE!!! WAHAHAHA!! Thank God that i found friends so quickly. Least i can concentrate on what is more important. :)
One LAST thing before i go off to start on my work again. :(
We had a really fun session today. The course is on Drama and so there are a lot of activities as compared discussions. We played quite some games!! One of the games is called "I'm going to my grandma's house this weekend". This is how the game goes. Everyone has to start off with "I'm going to my grandma's house this weekend. And i'm bringing...". And everyone has to think of something to say. After the first person says, the second person has to repeat what the first person mentioned and also the something she wants to say!! So... I was kinda the last 20 ppl to repeat everyone's i think. So here's what i had to repeat. (I hope i can still remember.)
I'm going to my grandma's house this weekend. And i'm bringing....
